We recognize that cultural differences can enhance quality of care and significantly contribute to a more successful treatment strategy. Understanding a person’s unique culture becomes essential in diagnosis and treatment. Another important aspect of treatment is the deeply rooted mental health stigma in many cultures. Many patients come to mental health professionals for help as their last resort after exhausting other alternatives. Understanding this mindset helps us to bridge the gap between a person’s culture and mental health care. In addition, there are unique aspects of medication management in patients depending on genetics. The metabolism of certain medicines may be different depending on population, leading to possible alternative effective dosages and side effects. We strive to look at all layers of an individual, including what can’t be measured or quantified on paper.
